The Devil's Mandarin
About The Book
A British spy sent into the world’s newest communist country on an assassination op discovers the target is someone he knows. Jensen Brownfield poses as a reluctant defector and attempts to infiltrate the People's Democratic Republic Communist Party, its Central Committee, politburo, and evade the secret police, the 2nd Directorate.
In time, he must establish a trade with his new controllers, gather intel, and find a way to execute "the Great Leader." There's only one problem: The Great Leader is a complete mystery. No descriptions or pictures of him exist, only his voice echoes from the public PA system. As Jensen maneuvers inside the fledgling nation, he discovers the regime he’s trying to fool is actually fooling him. Secrets can be seductive, and they keep them from him, their citizens, and the world at large.
When he discovers the identity of the target, he must decide between loyalty to the one person who has always protected him or to execute the political target they have become.

About The Book
Logos is the veiled one. He knows more about their predicament than he leads on. He attempts to bring down their captors in a scheme which baffles everyone, even Robert. If he’s spot on, it may get them freed. If he miscalculates, they die. As the story spirals to its end, both men are forced to make decisions which will test their beliefs.
Writing style—absolutely unique. Setting—dark and ominous like the Heart of Darkness. Message—the author leaves it for the reader to contemplate. I found myself intrigued by the story and equally entranced in the style. Robert’s first person account puts the reader next to the characters and into the action, along for the treacherous ride. One sees what they see, smells what they smell, and fears what they fear. I felt I was there.
Feral Eye of the Blackbird is thrilling from start to finish. Heart pounding, mind expanding, and yes, inspiring, all in a dark world. Mr. Katsoulis is the best literary find of the year..

A modern-day classic. Western beliefs of free will and reason confront autocracy and mysticism in the jungle, as two men are kidnapped and sent on a journey to a mysterious work site. They will be tested, and soon discover, their minds as much as their wills must be protected to escape.
Logos, a mechanical engineer, and Robert, his assistant, are kidnapped by a shadowy organization “to resurrect the temple,” a diamond mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He is one of few men capable of completing the construction project. Logos is forced at gunpoint to do it or both men will be killed. In the nothingness they encounter, Man’s most fundamental skill, reason, is discovered, embraced, and wielded as survivor skill.
Robert, young, and at times naïve, narrates the trek. He must face fear—his inner demon the black bird before it tears him apart. The book does a fine job here dissecting fear.
